Dresden, Germany an overnight, then Terezin
Got to admit, had no idea what to expect of Dresden. Sure, I'd heard of it from the book 'Slaughterhouse-Five or The Children's Crusade' by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and the firebombing destruction from February 1945. Now I know, Dresden deserves more than a few hours. It was a bit of a Wow for me.
Got a new paper map, and figured out where we are. Excellent landmark, Hotel Kipping was near the train station, i.e. the Hauptbahnhof.
Dresden is easy walking from the train station down to the River Elbe. As a group, we more of less did the Baroque Blitz through Old Town (Altstadt) through the Zwinger over to the Frauenkirche and finally up to the Bruhlsche Terrasse "Balcony of Europe" for a beer.
A bit of video of Dresden
For most of the group "THE HIGHLIGHT" was being interviewed by the Dresden Press, paper and TV, during the World Cup match. How cool was that? The World Cup was in full-stride during our tour.
After an Evening of great fun, en route Prague, we stop at Terezin. Somber. I will let these photos speak for themselves. This was not a "death camp" per se, but very moving. What man could do to man?
After Terezin, I needed a beer... Let's go to Prague
